Being aware of our growth and obligations to our association, as well as federal and local authorities, MBUDCA USA established its 1st Council of Elders by constitutional amendment at the 2019 National Convention in Washington DC. The Association has recognized how the establishment of the Council of Elders would lead to better governance.
The Council of Elders will consist of the following members:
- Chair
- Secretary
- Board Member
- Board Member
- Board Member
- Board Member
The role of the Council of Elders is to guide the administration of the National Executive Bureau, ensuring that the organization fulfills its mission to monitor, guide, and enable good management. Generally, they will be making recommendations to the National Executive Bureau in matters regarding direction, policy, strategy, and governance of the organization. Other roles include but are not limited to:
- Guide the Association in formulating key policies and strategic goals, especially on near-term and longer-term opportunities and challenges.
- Assist and give recommendations in matters critical to the health of the organization.
- Review the resources of the organization for the longer run, not just by carefully reviewing annual budgets and evaluating operations but also by encouraging foresight through several budget cycles.
The Council of Elders will consists of nine (9) members; six (6) of whom are elected by the General Assembly, the National President, the National Secretary General, and two (2) councilors appointed by the President. In addition, the term of each elected Council Member is four (4) years, and they can only be re-elected once.
NOTE: It was unanimously agreed at the 2019 National Convention in Washington, DC that the National President will appoint the Inaugural members of the Council so that this BODY can begin working on some pressing issues concerning our Organization.
